The Road Less Travelled
Story
Welcome to the City2Surf ‘The Road Less Travelled” Team!
In 1998, Matt ran the City2Surf after having worked all night at the iconic Jackson’s on George on George Street in Sydney. A crazy (perhaps silly?!) bet was made amongst a group of people working there that night. Who would come first over the finishing line? Matt and Laurie running the 14km course or Marcus and Sam drinking the same amount of beer…
The runners won and would gloat about it for years to come.
This year, 20 years later, the guys will reunite and redo their bet (with slight modifications), with Laurie being supported by Marcelo in the running team.
This group of now middle-aged men will be running the City2Surf on August 12. They are taking on 14km of Sydney's notoriously hilly terrain, some with limited running training in the past 20 years! They will have to compete against and be quicker than the mighty ‘Three Sheets to the Wind’ Team who will be drinking some beers as their part of the bet. As a team, you cannot leave any team member behind so it's everyone past the post or the team is out!
And silly hats are obviously to be worn throughout the whole challenge!
Please support the running team as they take on the same challenge, even though sadly they'll be one man down on this the 20th anniversary of the last run. If you believe that Laurie and Marcelo will come out victorious and beat the beer drinkers, bid on them below using the donate button.
All funds will go to stomach cancer research through the GI Cancer Institute. Donations (over $2) are tax-free.
